Personal Tax Services
TWP Accounting LLP is actively advising their
non-domiciled and non-resident clients on tax
changes, which are currently due to come into
effect on 6 April 2008.
While short-term visitors to the UK will not
be affected, it has come as a shock to those
living here for at least seven years to suddenly
find their UK tax bills increasing substantially,
says Mike Dawes, Private Client Tax Partner.
For those who choose to remain in the UK there
are a number of planning points, which need to
be considered as soon as possible.
At the same time there are new rules to work
out if a person becomes treated as UK resident
for tax purposes.
These remove uncertainty following a tax case
in the High Court last year, but will make it
harder for a person who spends frequent periods
in the UK to claim that they are not resident.
