Gifts |
Many people's investment portfolios
contain very small shareholdings, often
arising as the residue on a take-over
or bonus issues. They may only pay a
few pence of dividends and the dealing
costs barely make it worthwhile to sell.
Individually these shareholdings can
be more trouble than they are worth,
but collectively they can be put to good
use.
Sharegift is an organisation that provides
a mechanism for giving unwanted shares
to charity. Their website at www.sharegift.org
explains how it is done. If you do decide
to make any charitable gifts of shares
don't forget to tell us when we process
your tax return next year - because as
a bonus you can get tax relief on the
gifts of most stocks and shares to charity.
